On April 16, 2013 I received an email from a Daily Deal site I participate in called “Moolala“. Moolala is a daily deal site that also acts like a Network Marketing site. You make money from referrals.  The founder is a personal friend of mine, full disclosure. Moolala is a GREAT website, a GREAT idea of allowing you to be rewarded for referrals, and all around represents a great value for the money. Try Moolala. Now on to the review of the product itself from WidgetLove, who in the wake of controversy is also doing business as   http://www.nuinno.com/ …

Widget Love or Widget Scam or Widget Scammer?

Widget Love or Widget Scam or Widget Scammer?

I received a mailer that featured a garden hose being sold by Widget Love. I have needed a garden hose for quite some time and this was a deal for an expandable garden hose valued at $50 with a sprayer. I’d seen similar hoses at WalMart.

I promptly placed my order but after a few weeks I’d not received my expandable garden hose so I reached out to Widget Love in the middle of May.  I asked where my item was.

I shouldn’t have had to and that’s where it starts…

Now when I plugged in the tracking number, imagine my surprise, it was being shipped from CHINA. We all know the Ebay auctions that ship directly from China – so we know to set our expectations accordingly. But there was nothing in Widget Love’s site or advertisement that indicated it was being shipped from CHINA. You can go to Walmart and get the original 25′ pocket hose for $12.88 and a sprayer – and still not hit the $25 mark.

Widget Love Scam or Just Bad Products and Customer Service? Ships from China without any disclosure. Cheap KNOCK OFF plastic quality. Broken after 3 uses.

So the item FINALLY showed up weeks later. The hose seemed fine but the sprayer was entirely PLASTIC just like cheap chinese knockoffs generally are. It’s a seasonal summer item with limited use. So I used it three times. And THIS is what happened:

I notified Widgetlove a few days ago what happened  – expecting them to ship a replacement or refund my money – but instead this was their response:

Dear valued Widget Love customer,
We are sorry to hear that you are having difficulties with one of our products. Unfortunately we are unable to provide a replacement at this time. As per our Return Policy, a defective product must be reported within 20 days of receipt.
Once again we apologize for any inconveniences and hope you will continue to use our products and services in the future.
Thank you and have a great day! With best regards,
Widget Love Support

I did further research on WidgetLove and found an entire profile of complaints on them, their cheap products, and UNDISCLOSED overseas shipping:

Widget Love Ripoff Scam or Bad Service? This is how it was advertised for Widget Love on CBS Local Offers Daily Deal Site. See how the plastic ends are still attached unlike mine.

In fairness, I did contact Moolala and informed them of the situation. After a good discussion, they refunded the amount spent on Widgetlove but in the end it should not have been up to them, it should have been Widgetlove. Despite a policy that a defect should be reported within 20 days of receipt, they delayed receipt and have shipped an inferior product.

I am saddened that Moolala took a $20 loss for me but at the same time encourage any daily deals site to screen their vendors better. These vendors seem to move from daily deals site to daily deals site with little regard for the consumer, peddling their snake oil to unsuspecting customers. Why I’d never buy an Ipod cable from a daily deals site is highlighted here by someone who CONTACTED APPLE:

“I contacted Apple and the department hat issues MFI license, they said they do NOT recognize this company at all. “ (reference to an Ipod cable) – Daily Deals sites should NOT be peddling these knockoffs. Among other things they break easily. Even Apple branded cables can burn out esp the Ipod 5 chipped Lightning cables. Add an aftermarket charger and you’ve got a receipe for disaster.

I applaud Moolala for their actions – and am VERY thankful for them – but it wasn’t something that was necessary. What I do advise is that any daily deals site screen vendors, maybe through Ripoff Report or other complaint mechanisms, because Widgetlove uses daily deal sites to sell their goods with inflated values.  But Moolala went above and beyond the call of duty to refund me. Put more simply MOOLALA SAVED THE DAY!

What are others saying about Widget Love? Don’t just take my word for it.

“if possible, do not purchase anything from this company.  They are dishonest and the quality of their products are centre melt poor as they appear to be shipped directly from China. I am completely disappointed not only in Widgetlove but also in Eversave for allowing Widgetlove to falsely advertise.”

my advice is that you stay away from Widgetlove

Buyer BEWARE!!!!! Widget Love or widgetlove.com is selling more fake items on its new website  at http://www.nuinno.com. !!!! Don’t be fooled by the pretty designed on the new website, it is by the same company as Widget Love!!! They are selling iPhone cables on their site and popular deal site such as Groupon, they market it as Apple-certifed with MFI license, which is a LIE!!!! I contacted Apple and the department hat issues MFI license, they said they do NOT recognize this company at all.
