Richard Bloom State Assemblyman Congratulations!
Two years ago I wanted to learn how to work with the homeless in Santa Monica over Thanksgiving and Christmas. What I learned led to the annual Santa Monica Christmas trip in which I left home for 3 weeks to stay in L.A. and volunteer each weekday and weekend to work with the homeless. I did it for two years in a row. I had to skip this year for family reasons.
One man got me started. His name was Richard Bloom. He referred me to city council members and organizations which formed what became “Santa Monica Christmas”.
“Thank you so much. We are very proud of our town and appreciate your comments greatly. I am copying to the City Manager and Asst City Manager so that they can read your email and distribute to appropriate staff members.
There is an annual large-scale Thanksgiving meal served to the homeless on Thanksgiving Day in the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium.
Los Angeles County has unfortunate distinction of having the highest number of homeless individuals in the country: about 75,000 or over 10% of the nation’s total homeless population. It has been a priority issue for me for many years now.
Thank you for taking your valuable time to express your appreciation for Santa Monica!
So glad you made it to the state assembly!
