All are NOT welcome at this Mall.

All are NOT welcome at this Mall.

On December 17, 2013 at 9am  I went to Macy’s in Cool Springs Mall to buy my mom’s Christmas present. I grabbed the item then went to a counter. The lady told me to go to the next counter. I asked ‘where’ 3x and she just kept pointing. I asked to be taken to the next register since it was my first time buying anything in Macys…ever… and she refused. So I finally found the next counter but it was empty. I shouted at the top of my lungs ‘IS THERE ANYONE TO CHECK ME OUT??!’. After the third shout someone came over and walked me to yet another register. When I worked at Toys R US 20 years ago, it was ‘Take to Help, Ask for Help, Stay until Help Arrives…’

I was clearly NOT welcome at Macy’s at Cool Springs Mall. I talked to the manager and brought up that it may be because of my appearance. Though I am self employed and normally dressed more formally, today I was in jeans and a hoodie. It didn’t seem to me that I was welcome at Macy’s at the Cool Springs Mall. It is a higher income clientele than Rivergate mall, they may not welcome it, I don’t know.  I have no other explanation for this behavior. I should not have to shout at the top of my lungs to get checked out or have an associate point to an empty register three times and refuse to walk me over. She may have known it was empty and just wanted to get rid of me. Hard to say.  Regardless I am sorry this store got any of my dollars to begin with and will shop elsewhere from now on.  I will shop where ALL are welcome regardless of outer appearance. I do NOT recommend this store to anyone in the lower middle class or below. They simply may not be waited on, and pointed to an empty register.
