120 Dickson Residents Call for the Murder of Innocent Geese
WSMV.com and other outlets are reporting how Dickson residents are calling for geese to be rounded up and euthanized. The orignal article is found at Dickson to have lake’s geese, ducks removed and euthanized
I’ve not read much outcry from other Dickson residents so it seems to me at least that Dickson is sitting on this. I’ve heard from two but that’s it. Perhaps the council is controlled via re-election by the 120 signatures on the petition. That would explain a lot. Their careers on the council and beyond are coming at the cost of the lives of this wildlife.
The geese are federally protected (which should mean something but not to those above-the-law who chose to live in Dickson near water and if they knew anything abut wildlife, would know what to expect) and want to kill the geese to protect their quality of life.
Public works director Jeff Lewis said the city’s been presented with about 120 signatures from neighbors claiming the area’s overrun with more than 250 geese, many of which have migrated but will be back in the spring.
“The droppings and everything are just so bad,” said Dickson resident Ray Denney. “I’ll be out walking, and it’s even in people’s yards.”
Monday night, the city council voted to enter into a contract with the US Department of Agriculture to corral the geese and ducks in the spring or early summer to have them euthanized. Lewis said the city can’t touch the birds with the Canadian geese and mallard ducks federally protected. He said that’s why a contract for their removal and euthanization through USDA is required.
“If you have to come down your driveway every day to get your mail, you have to change your shoes when you get back,” said Denney. “I’d say it’s a problem, a real problem.”
Lewis said the city has had the birds removed from Lake Luther before in 2008.
Nature abhors a vacuum. If you remove the geese, they will be back. Ohh wait, they did that in 2008 and…in 2015…they’re back. All Lewis and his team are doing is killing for no reason at all and then in another few years he and his lot will kill again and again and again.
Any high school educated student who’s taken at least 1 natural science like earth science knows that you have to adapt to living around wild life, not exterminate it. But I guess that’s Tennessee’s education at it’s finest as the 120 residents of Dickson who want this don’t know that. I won’t blame them, they probably just are ignorant.
There is a petition to stop it, it’s worth checking out and signing: Tell Dickson to Leave the Geese and Water Fowl of Luther Lake Alone.
Write ’em, call ’em, petition ’em. These geese can be saved, this isn’t due to happen for a little bit. You can stop this barbarism.
