Brixx Woodfired Pizza – Department of Health Responds
Lori LeMaster of the State of TN responded to my inquiry about bringing your own personal food into a restaraunt:
Hello,
Yes, it looks like our food law is similar to the NC law quoted in your link. Food served by the establishment must be from sources that comply with the Law, however formula or other food brought by an individual for their own consumption is not “served” by the establishment. While the TN Food Service Establishment law doesn’t prohibit outside food and drinks for individual consumption at a food service establishment, many restaurants do, in fact, restrict outside foods and beverages.
Our food rules can be found at this link: http://www.state.tn.us/sos/
rules/1200/1200-23/1200-23-01.

I am very grateful the Dept of Health clarified the law.
