Amazon.com’s saver and standard shipping can either be USPS, UPS, or UPS Surepost – UPS Surepost is where it looks like it’s UPS but is actually UPS, handed off to the post office (which creates an additional 2 day delay), then delivered by the Post Office.

I had 2 packages scheduled for delivery on 1/7/2014. I stayed home specifically because UPS stated that the package was handed off to the USPS, and the USPS tracking said it was ‘out for delivery’. This was with the Madison, TN Post Office at 323 E Old Hickory Blvd, Madison, TN 37115.

On the afternoon of 1/7/2014 I got my “Website Magazine”, information for my retirement plan, and a  bunch of coupons in the weekly circular. What I did NOT get is my packages. I checked USPS.GOV and it stated “Underliverable as Addressed”.

I have two other orders on my account that HAVE been delivered to my address so mail IS deliverable as addressed, on record with Amazon, UPS, and USPS for orders dated 12/13/2013. Exact same address.

My driveway had NO ICE on it, I’d already been out and I made sure the path to my door was clear.

The USPS GOV also stated that “It is being returned if appropriate information is available” – not attempting to redeliver. The Post Office is 5 minutes from my home. I can’t even go down there to pick it up.

I asked Amazon if there’s a way to avoid SurePost – I’d ordered 3 packages over Christmas, 2 came Surepost, 1 came regular UPS, all were standard saver shipping. There’s NO WAY to know whether it’s going to be delivered by UPS or UPS-USPS Surepost.

In addition, the Madison TN post office is VERY discreationary, when I first arrived they advised me NOT to bring “international” packages to that location, that “we do not like international packages” so I take them to Hendersonville, TN instead.

I got most of the items re-sent 1 day shipping to be here Thursday but it blows my Wednesday deadline. 1 item was ‘fulfilled by Amazon’  – Amazon REFUSED to issue me a gift certificate or credit that I could use to re-order that item. I’m just plain OUT that item.  Amazon was EXTREMELY uncooperative about that item.

My issue is both with the Madison TN post office that seems to play by it’s own rules and with Amazon who needs to be more transparent on if something’s coming SurePost.  Madison, TN already stated not to bring international packages to that location, they are not playing by the same rules as the rest of the postal service.  Back to Amazon:

Amazon needs to be more TRANSPARENT. I did send a message to Amazon last month asking about this – they never addressed it directly:
